Ukraine launches first ATACMS strike on Russia; Putin expands nuclear-use criteria.

Sharing is Caring!

Ukraine has launched its first-ever long-range ATACMS missile strike into Russian territory. The missile, with a range of 190 miles, targeted a munitions storage facility near Karachev, Bryansk Oblast, located over 70 miles from the Ukrainian border. This marks a significant escalation in the conflict.

The strike was carried out using NATO-controlled targeting and fire systems, with the use of US satellites for communication. NATO selected the target, which was Russia’s 67th arsenal of the Russian Main Missile and Artillery Directorate (GRAU).

President Joe Biden had previously authorized Ukraine to use US-supplied long-range weapons against Russian territory, signaling NATO’s expanded support for Ukraine’s defense strategy.

The missile strike, confirmed by Ukraine’s Andriy Kovalenko via Telegram, was reportedly part of a coordinated drone-missile attack. The target was a key munitions depot, aimed at disrupting Russian military operations and logistics.

In response, Russian media reported that President Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing for the use of nuclear weapons under broader criteria, further intensifying the conflict. The strike illustrates Ukraine’s growing ability to strike deep within Russia, despite NATO’s indirect involvement through targeted control.
