President-elect Donald Trump will soon be sworn into the White House on Inauguration Day for his second term as president of the United States. The Swearing-In Ceremony is slated to start at 12 p.m. The Trump Vance Inaugural Committee released the timeline of key events related to Trump’s inauguration.
The 60th Presidential Inauguration is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20. Monday is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday. The ceremony will take place inside the Capitol Rotunda due to the forecasted extreme cold weather.
Security measures for the inauguration are expected to be the tightest Washington, D.C., has ever seen. More than 25,000 law enforcement and military personnel will be in the city, and over 30 miles of anti-scale fencing have been installed for crowd control. The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are also involved in securing the event.
The day’s events will begin with a service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, a tradition for presidents-elect. Trump and incoming first lady Melania Trump will then meet outgoing President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden at the White House for tea. The Swearing-In Ceremony will be followed by a formal farewell for Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as they depart the Capitol.
The President’s Signing Room Ceremony will take place in the President’s Room just off the Senate Chamber in the U.S. Capitol, where Trump will sign nominations, memorandums, or executive orders. The new president and vice president will then attend a luncheon at Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol hosted by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
Due to the cold weather, the traditional parade down Pennsylvania Avenue has been moved to the Capital One Arena. The event will feature remarks from Trump and performances by various musical acts. Trump will then head to the White House for an Oval Office ceremony where he is expected to sign new executive orders.
The inauguration festivities will continue with three inaugural balls: the Commander in Chief Inaugural Ball, the Liberty Inaugural Ball, and the Starlight Ball. Each ball will feature performances by different musical acts and remarks from Trump.
For those unable to attend in person, live streams of the inauguration events will be available on various platforms, including FOX News.
