Trump accuses Obama of treason and demands prosecution of Clinton and Biden over Russia collusion during Oval Office remarks

The Oval Office wasn’t quiet. On July 22, during a bilateral meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., President Trump turned a routine press gaggle into a direct accusation. He named Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden as “criminals” tied to what he called the “Russia hoax.” The quote was sharp: “Obama’s been caught directly. This was treason. This was every word you can think of.”

The remarks followed a Truth Social post from July 21, where Trump said Obama “manufactured the Russia HOAX.” That post came hours after Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard issued a press release claiming she had evidence of a “treasonous conspiracy” involving intelligence manipulation in 2016. Gabbard said she would refer the matter to the DOJ for criminal investigation. CIA Director John Ratcliffe backed her statement.

The White House confirmed Trump’s position. Spokesperson Harrison Fields said, “The President and his entire administration are committed to unearthing wrongdoing and holding any individual accountable for this gross abuse of power and blatant conspiracy against President Trump and his supporters.” That’s the official line.

Obama’s office responded. Spokesperson Patrick Rodenbush called the claims “outrageous” and “a weak attempt at distraction.” He cited the 2020 bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report, led by Marco Rubio, which concluded Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help Trump. Rodenbush said, “Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion.”

Legal analysts in Virginia flagged the Supreme Court’s 2024 ruling that shields former presidents from prosecution for official acts. That complicates any criminal referral. Florida attorneys said the DOJ would need to prove intent and personal involvement. New York desks noted that Gabbard’s referral focuses on intelligence suppression, not vote tampering.

The AI-generated video of Obama’s arrest, reposted by Trump on July 20, added fuel. The clip showed a fabricated scene of FBI agents cuffing Obama in the Oval Office. The video was originally posted by a TikTok account named “neo8171.” It’s not real. But it circulated widely. Obama’s team declined to comment on the video itself.

Trump is under pressure from his base over the Epstein case. The administration has faced backlash for delaying the release of key files. Some analysts say the renewed focus on Russia is a pivot. Others say it’s a long-delayed reckoning.

Gabbard’s documents allege that a December 2016 intelligence assessment was pulled before reaching the President’s Daily Brief. The memo reportedly stated that Russia “did not impact recent U.S. election results.” That assessment was never published. Gabbard says that omission was deliberate. She calls it “proof of conspiracy.”

The DOJ has not confirmed receipt of the referral. No charges have been filed. No subpoenas have been issued. But the rhetoric is escalating. Trump says it’s time to prosecute. Gabbard says the evidence is ready. The public is watching.
