Former President Donald Trump has confidently claimed his chances of winning against incumbent President Joe Biden in the 2024 elections are “close to 100 percent.”
During a campaign event in Iowa, the Republican candidate said he holds a formidable advantage over the 80-year-old Biden. Trump secured a resounding victory over the former vice president in the state during the 2020 presidential elections. Current polling data seemed to back up Trump’s confidence, with him remaining as the front-runner for the GOP’s nomination.
A poll by the New York Times (NYT) and Siena College, the results of which were released Aug. 1, found that Trump and Biden could possibly have a rematch in 2024. Based on the responses of 1,329 registered voters polled between July 23 and July 27, both candidates would secure a 43 percent equal share of the vote if the presidential election happen on that same day.
The former president received a substantial 54 percent of support among primary voters, with incumbent Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis trailing a distant second at just 17 percent. Several respondents meanwhile said they want other Democratic candidates aside from Biden to secure the nomination. Thirty-nine percent said his age was a contributing factor to their decision, while 29 percent pointed to his job performance.
The NYT-Siena poll also found that 54 percent of respondents were dissatisfied with Biden’s performance as president. Fifty-five percent of respondents, meanwhile, had an unfavorable view of Trump.
Trump: Indictments against him prove that Biden is anxious of the 2024 elections
During an exclusive Aug. 9 interview with Eric Bolling of Newsmax, Trump discussed the multiple indictments against him and Biden’s 2024 candidacy. According to the former president, the indictments were a sign that Biden is worried about the upcoming elections.
“Well, he’s not taking it too lightly,” Trump playfully remarked, referring to Biden’s alleged fears about his candidacy. “He’s indicted me three or four times; I haven’t checked. When I walk out of here, I’ll be indicted again.” (Related: Talk of ‘revolution’ reverberates across America after Biden’s politicized DOJ indicts President Trump, the candidate most likely to beat Biden in 2024.)
Trump also addressed former President Barack Obama’s warning to Biden about underestimating the 45th president as an opponent. He asserted: In fact, [Biden] is taking it more seriously than any candidate in history because he has the [Department of Justice], which he said he was going to do.”
The real estate mogul-turned-president did not shy away from scathingly criticizing his successor. He dubbed Biden “a totally incompetent man” struggling to articulate his thoughts, and blasted the Biden administration for contributing to a perception of American weakness. Trump argued that this weakness was emboldening nations like Russia, China and Saudi Arabia.
Trump even suggested that Biden might be compromised by foreign agents, specifically China.
“I do think we have a Manchurian candidate,” he told Bolling. “[Biden] is so fully compromised. I think it is because China has paid him so much money, and they don’t want people to find out.”
The former president alarmingly warned: “We are on the cusp of World War III, and these will not be army tanks firing at each other. This will be nuclear.” This echoed Trump’s long-standing stance on foreign policy and national security, as evidenced by his pledges to bring a swift end to the Russia-Ukraine war and take a tougher stance on Beijing.
