A police recruit who lost both of his legs in a ‘barbaric hazing ritual’ during training says he will ‘always support the police’, despite now being ‘permanently disabled’ and having ‘felt what death feels like’.
Victor Moses, 29, filed a lawsuit against the City of Denver and 13 police officers and paramedics last month over the ‘fight day’ training that resulted in him having to have both of his legs amputated.
Moses, who dreamt of being an officer since middle school, has now spoken out about the assault and offered insight into the ‘living hell’ that saw him undergo multiple surgeries on his ‘rotting’ body while he was hospitalized for four months.
‘I felt something I’ve never felt before,’ he told USA Today. ‘It’s really hard to explain, like, how it feels like to die, and I’ve never had that, but I felt what death feels like.’
He revealed that although he will ‘never be who I was when I woke up the morning of January 6’ last year, he is still willing to work in or around policing in the future.
‘I will always support the police. There’s so many good police officers out there,’ he said. ‘Yes, my life was ruined, I was turned permanently disabled. But it doesn’t negate the fact that there are a lot of good cops out there.’
