Town in Sicily on the brink of collapse

A landslide in Sicily has left houses dangling over the edge of a precipice and has forced the evacuation of 1,500 people.

Photographs and videos showed how the 2.5-mile-long landslide sheared off a vast quantity of rock and soil on the outskirts of the town of Niscemi.

The landslide happened after southern Italy was hit by a cyclone, bringing days of storms and torrential rain.

The town previously sat on a curved bluff that sloped down onto fields below, but it now perches on the edge of a sheer cliff.
