The US birth rate has fallen by somewhere between 14% and 20% since 2012, depending on the estimate per Bloomberg.
Today, about 35% of women ages 25-44 have never given birth, almost double the number in 1976.

Both my granddads owned homes, had no degree and had multiple children getting by on one blue collar income. Neither of my grandmas ever worked.
Now, neither my wife or I could afford to not work. We wouldn’t survive on just one paycheck with zero kids. Things like that make the decision easy for people already on the fence about being a parent.
Both grandpas retired comfortably with pensions and Social Security also.
The American dream mirage has evaporated.
