Normal Times:
Optimist: things are good, outlook is good
Pessimist: things are good, outlook is bad, timing unknown
Today:
Optimist: same as above
Pessimist: things appear okay but under the surface many negative developments are occurring which portend for a crisis soon. This will involve some combination of major war, severe global recession, global financial crisis and stock market crashes.
Take all of the War news and the Business news so far this year. People read it and then the mind applies all of its defense mechanisms, cognitive biases and logical fallacies to it then presto: interpretation. Optimists today have the Optimism Bias and Normalcy Bias cranks to max. There is a shit ton of minor bad news out there that they aren’t worried about. Yet.
