Texas politics turns into a game of hide and seek

Texas Democrats left the state again to stop a new congressional map that would add five GOP seats.

“Dozens of Texas Democrats plan to flee the state amid a special session Sunday afternoon, making a last-ditch effort to disrupt a mid-decade redistricting attempt forced by President Donald Trump,” Politico reported.

This is the second time since 2021 that Democrats broke quorum to block a vote. Back then, Texas Governor Greg Abbott threatened to arrest those who fled.

Attorney General Ken Paxton called for their arrest again this time.

The fight over redistricting in Texas will likely spark a nationwide battle ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Redistricting is designed to keep Republicans in power by adding seats favorable to the GOP. Democrats see this as a threat to fair elections.

This back-and-forth shows how redistricting now drives deep political conflict, with states becoming battlegrounds long before election day.

The standoff reveals that the fight for control in Congress starts with map drawing, not just votes.
