As of Dec. 8, 2025, 42 incumbent members of the U.S. House of Representatives—19 Democrats and 23 Republicans—have announced that they will not seek re-election in the 2026 election cycle. Of the 42 U.S. House incumbents who are not seeking re-election: Fifteen—10 Democrats and five Republicans—are retiring from public office.
