Rabid fur seals are biting people. A marine biologist and the co-founder of Ocean Conservation Namibia discuss what the first rabies outbreak in marine mammals means for swimmers, seals, and seal conservation.

In recent years there has been a marked increase of aggressive, unprovoked, incidents involving seals against humans around Cape Town, South Africa.
And scientists investigating these attacks uncovered a surprising, and shocking reason: rabies.
This is the first time rabies has been detected in marine mammals.
