‘A Shigellosis disease outbreak has been confirmed at Victoria’s Esoteric Festival, with festival-goers warned that the highly contagious bowel infection can have dire symptoms.
Shigellosis (Shigella) is a bowel infection that is often spread by coming into contact with infected faeces.
It can be spread by getting the bacteria on your hands and touching your mouth, or sexually by oral-anal contact.’
Health authorities are urging Victorians who attended the Esoteric Festival from March 8 to March 12 to get tested for shigella immediately if they experience gastro-like symptoms.
