According to multiple reports from 2024, Sen. Mike Lee introduced legislation known as the “America First Act” aimed at banning illegal immigrants from receiving public benefits. This legislation seeks to amend the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act to explicitly exclude individuals illegally residing in the U.S., including those granted asylum or paroled into the country, from eligibility to receive various public benefits like SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, CHIP, and certain housing benefits.
