Samsung’s solid-state batteries can unlock a 600-mile range and a 9-minute charge time for electric vehicles (EVs).
Battery Range and Charge Time: Samsung has announced a significant breakthrough in solid-state battery technology. These batteries promise a range of up to 600 miles on a single charge and the capability to recharge in just nine minutes.
Energy Density: The new solid-state batteries boast an energy density of 500 Wh/kg, which is nearly double that of mainstream EV batteries. This increased density could potentially double the driving range of current electric vehicles.
Safety and Size: These batteries are expected to be smaller, lighter, and safer than the lithium-ion batteries currently used in most electric vehicles. They replace liquid components with solid ones, enhancing safety and reducing weight.
Production and Availability: Samsung has built a pilot production line for these batteries and has already delivered initial batches to EV manufacturers for testing. However, due to high production costs, these batteries will initially be available in the “super premium” EV segment.
