Russia denies aircraft losses, vows retaliation after Ukraine’s drone offensive

Russia has vowed retaliation following Ukraine’s latest drone strikes, marking a new escalation in the ongoing conflict. The Russian Ministry of Defense responded to Ukrainian claims that 40 aircraft were destroyed, dismissing the reports and asserting that all attacks on military airfields in Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions were repelled.

The strikes, carried out on June 1, targeted airfields in Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur, using FPV drones. Ukrainian sources described the operation as a major success, claiming that strategic bombers and other military assets were severely damaged. However, Russian officials have denied the extent of the destruction, stating that their air defenses neutralized the majority of incoming threats.

The scale of the attack is unprecedented. Reports indicate that Ukraine launched hundreds of drones in coordinated waves, aiming to cripple Russia’s aerial capabilities. The Russian response has been swift, with officials promising “measured retaliation” against Ukrainian military infrastructure.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Western nations of encouraging Ukraine’s strikes, suggesting that European leaders are actively undermining peace efforts. He warned that Russia would hold them accountable for their role in escalating hostilities.
