Greece is facing a significant demographic crisis. The country has been experiencing a steady population decline for several years. In 2022, Greece recorded fewer than 77,000 births, the lowest number in nearly a century, while deaths almost doubled that number, reaching 140,000. This trend has led to concerns about the long-term social and economic stability of the country.

Projections indicate that Greece’s population could decrease by up to 25% by 2070, which is significantly higher than the EU average of 4%. This demographic decline is evident in the increasing number of empty villages and the challenges faced by young workers.
