- Microsoft has said it remains committed to diversity and inclusion
- Some universities and business have scaled back DEI programs
- Microsoft reportedly eliminated the team due to “changing business needs.”
(NewsNation) —Microsoft has reportedly laid off the entirety of its diversity, equity and inclusion team (DEI), citing their lack of relevance to business operations.
In an email viewed by Business Insider, a Microsoft “team leader” wrote; “True systems-change work associated with DEI programs everywhere are no longer business critical or smart as they were in 2020.”
The report says Microsoft eliminated the team due to “changing business needs.”
In 2020, Microsoft announced plans to double the number of Black and African American leaders in the corporation and suppliers of the same ethnicity. It is presently unclear if they achieved these goals.
