Map Shows States Where Drivers Told to Avoid Gas Stations

Three states have requested that motorists avoid driving gas- and diesel-powered vehicles and refrain from visiting gas stations while air quality alerts are in place.

Over the past week, several states have been impacted by poor air quality which has worsened as summer weather brings an influx in temperatures across multiple regions. On Wednesday morning, eight states had air quality alerts in place, according to the National Weather Service.

In addition to the alerts, officials in Indiana, Alabama and Colorado have made suggestions regarding the use of gasoline, as emissions can worsen air quality. The alerts follow similar messaging from California and Texas last week.
