First, the LA fire department’s budget actually increased by more than 7% compared to the previous fiscal year:
Second, LA county has a budget of $49.2 billion for the 2024-2025 fiscal year (source). The amount allocated to the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles ($14,010), for instance, represents less than 0.000029% of the total budget. For perspective, that costs your average LA resident less than a fifth of a cent per year. I doubt that this money would have had any meaningful impact on the fire department’s ability to fight wildfires.
That’s right. I recently learned that in addition to the federal tax contributions to Israel, every single state also makes tax contributions to Israel.
