A federal judge has ruled that Alex Jones can maintain control of Infowars, despite a bankruptcy auction that saw satirical news outlet The Onion named the winning bidder over a company connected to Jones. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez rejected the sale, citing flaws in the auction process and concerns over the compensation for the families of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shooting victims.
The Onion had planned to oust Jones and relaunch Infowars as a parody, but Judge Lopez’s decision ensures Jones will remain in control of the company, based in Austin, Texas. While he criticized the auction process, Lopez did not find any wrongdoing and left the next steps in the hands of the trustee overseeing the auction.
