The Biden administration was attempting to cool off the stigma of supporting the genocide in Gaza, and Israel started pulling some of the troops last week.
It’s possible that the deal was “okay, start a war with Iran and we’ll stop the slaughter of these kids.”
In fact, that could have been Israel’s strategy from the beginning.
It was a face saving token gesture.

Biden loves to always make it seem like he's leading some grand international coalition. I'm sure the Netherlands played a crucial operational role in the attack pic.twitter.com/nzNYfixUQP

Regardless of what is going on behind the scenes, which is totally opaque because all American diplomacy and violence is “national security” and therefore totally secret (the population is literally not permitted to know what is going on), this is definitely a very serious escalation.
Iran, etc. is going to respond to it. Both sides will keep upping the ante.
The fronts in Lebanon and Yemen could spiral out of control at any moment and suck us into another war for Israel.
The US has been bankrupt for 50 years and has managed to get the rest of the world to subsidize the empires ambitions for the most part.
Those that have interfered of challenged the hegemon have been eliminated.
That unipolar scenario seems to be falling apart in front of our eyes now.
The US has never had to face a major power like Russia or China let alone on multiple fronts.
If the DoD could not maintain control in Afghanistan, then the world is clearly going to slip through its fingers.
The American people are apparently on-board for total war.
They don’t have any idea what that means, because they’ve been playing games in the third world for 80 years and calling that “war,” but they are fine with a big war, as far as I can tell.
