President Javier Milei of Argentina has taken a decisive step toward reducing government waste by announcing the closure of the nation’s tax collection agency, Administración Federal de Ingresos Públicos (AFIP). This move is part of his broader plan to slash bureaucratic inefficiencies and lower government spending. In its place, the Agencia de Recaudación y Control Aduanero (ARCA) will take over, promising a more efficient and cost-effective system.
According to spokesperson Manuel Adorni, AFIP had long served as a political tool for oppression, subjecting many Argentines to unwarranted persecution. Milei’s plan aims to dismantle the burdensome bureaucracy that has stifled economic freedom and innovation. This restructuring is expected to save Argentina $6.4 million annually, driven by a reduction of over 3,000 staff and a significant cut in top-level positions.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., Elon Musk could be tapped for a similar role. Former President Donald Trump recently suggested Musk to head a “government efficiency commission” if Trump wins a second term. Musk’s focus would be on conducting a financial and performance audit of the federal government, with the aim of eliminating inefficiencies.
Milei’s bold actions in Argentina demonstrate that cutting government waste can have profound positive impacts, and having someone like Musk lead a similar effort in the U.S. could be a game-changer for American taxpayers. Both initiatives signify a welcome push for smaller, more efficient governments focused on promoting economic freedom.
Plenty of federal gov’t workers already show zero interest in coming into the office. https://t.co/RxK8Ij8oRE
