Ohio’s Department of Agriculture has implemented strict biosecurity measures due to the ongoing outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), commonly known as bird flu. If a person contracts human flu and has close contact with poultry, especially chickens, authorities may recommend testing the birds for avian flu as a precautionary measure. This is because bird flu can spread from infected poultry to humans, although the risk of human-to-human transmission remains low.
