Hungary bans LGBTQ+ Pride events nationwide

Hungary’s parliament has passed a law banning LGBTQ+ Pride events, including public gatherings that conflict with the country’s “child protection” laws. The legislation prohibits the “depiction or promotion” of homosexuality to individuals under the age of 18, expanding measures first introduced in 2021. The law was approved by a vote of 136 to 27.

Authorities will enforce the ban with penalties for violations, including fines of up to 200,000 Hungarian forints ($546). Facial recognition technology will also be used to monitor compliance. The law is now in effect, with further updates expected.
