Gunman kills two at Kentucky church after shooting trooper near Lexington airport

A Sunday morning in Lexington turned violent. A suspect opened fire near Blue Grass Airport, shooting a Kentucky State Trooper during a traffic stop at 11:36 AM. The trooper survived and remains hospitalized in stable condition. The suspect fled the scene, hijacked a vehicle, and drove 17 miles to Richmond Road Baptist Church. There, he opened fire again. Two women were killed. Two men were wounded. One remains in critical condition. The suspect was shot and killed by police on church grounds.

The victims have been identified as Beverly Gumm, 72, and Christina Combs, 32. The wounded men have not been named. The suspect’s identity has not been officially released, though social media posts claim he was a local man with a troubled past. Police have not confirmed those claims. The motive remains unclear.

Governor Andy Beshear issued a statement calling for prayers and praised the swift response by law enforcement. The church, a quiet sanctuary in Fayette County, became the final stop in a spree that began with a routine traffic stop and ended with multiple lives shattered.

The FBI, ATF, and Kentucky State Police are now involved in the investigation. The area around the church remains cordoned off. Flights at Blue Grass Airport were not disrupted. The incident is being treated as isolated, but the scale of the response suggests authorities are leaving nothing to chance.
