GEICO mandates pronouns in employee introductions

Sharing is Caring!

GEICO has rolled out mandatory training requiring employees to introduce themselves with their pronouns during customer interactions. Introduced in November 2024, the initiative is part of the company’s broader diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts to promote inclusivity and gender diversity in the workplace.

Employees are instructed to complete training and state their pronouns in interactions, such as “I use he/him pronouns.” The company views this as a step toward fostering respect and equity, but not everyone agrees.

Critics argue the policy oversteps boundaries, labeling it unnecessary and intrusive. Employees have also raised concerns about being instructed to correct customers who misgender them, a move some feel could complicate interactions.

GEICO maintains that the initiative aligns with its commitment to equity, community service, and standing with marginalized groups. However, the backlash suggests that not all employees see this mandate as fostering inclusivity but as an imposition on personal expression and workplace dynamics.
