The Finnish government is to hold a press conference at 5.30pm on Tuesday to discuss a gas pipeline leak in the Gulf of Finland. In a message on X, the Council of State announced that Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP) and other officials will be present. Orpo was also expected to make a brief comment about the situation to reporters at the Parliament building around 4pm.
According to a government press release, the authorities have located the damage point in the Balticconnector natural gas pipeline.
In addition, there is also damage to the communication cable between the countries.
According to Yle sources, the leak “does not appear to be an accident” and the press conference is believed to be related to “a worrying change in Finland’s security situation”.
