There are stories that should make your blood boil, and then there are the stories that should make you question the very foundation of how the government operates. This is one of those stories. The federal government has spent an astonishing $40 billion in 2024 alone on credit card purchases made by government employees. These aren’t just for office supplies or the occasional authorized purchase. This is a system full of waste, inefficiency, and outright negligence. You know things are bad when the Government Accountability Office (GAO) has been warning about this problem for decades.
In 2017, the GAO uncovered a shocking truth—22% of these government credit card purchases lacked proper documentation. That means one out of every five purchases made on taxpayer-funded credit cards wasn’t even properly authorized or justified. And don’t think this is a new issue. Back in 2003, the GAO raised alarms about government employees using their credit cards to buy personal items. How many more decades do we need before action is taken?
Yet, the problem continues to fester. Government employees have been ordering unnecessary computer equipment, personal items, and travel purchases that could easily be avoided. Who’s responsible for these wasteful expenditures? Who’s held accountable for ignoring repeated warnings from the GAO? The answer, of course, is nobody. There’s never any accountability, and the taxpayers end up footing the bill.
And it doesn’t stop there. According to recent revelations from DOGE, there’s a fundamental flaw in the system that allows for this reckless spending. The Treasury General Account, the one account used to disperse all federal funds, had a staggering $800 billion in it just a couple of weeks ago. That’s a huge sum of money with no oversight, no verification process, and no checks and balances. Treasury has been simply making payments without verifying them properly. If this was any other organization, people would be arrested. But here, it’s business as usual.
What’s worse is that the federal government can’t even pass an audit. The fact that $500 billion in fraud occurs every year and hundreds of billions of dollars are paid out improperly is an outright scandal. This is a gross failure of the system, and yet there are no consequences. No one is going to jail. There’s no accountability. The system is broken, and it’s costing American taxpayers dearly.
On top of all this waste, we find out that the government has spent $1 billion on a survey asking people if they liked National Parks. That’s right—$1 billion, down the drain. This is the government at its finest, blowing taxpayer money on frivolous projects while neglecting the real issues.
But the anger doesn’t end there. American citizens are furious to learn that they’ve been paying for illegal immigrants to buy homes. The FHA has been giving taxpayer-funded loans to people who aren’t even citizens. These loans, totaling $186,000 each, have been handed out to people who don’t have the right to own property in this country. Meanwhile, hardworking Americans can barely afford to rent a home. We have been robbed, and we deserve a refund. This is outright criminal, and the government’s complacency in allowing this to happen is infuriating.
