Federal lawsuit alleges human trafficking and sexual exploitation against Tim Ballard, founder of OUR.

Tim Ballard, founder of Operation Underground Railroad (OUR) and the inspiration behind the film Sound of Freedom, faces serious allegations in a federal lawsuit. Six women suing Ballard for sexual assault in state court have now filed a new lawsuit in federal court, claiming he engaged in sex trafficking. This lawsuit mirrors many allegations from the state lawsuits but also accuses Ballard of violating the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act by coercing and manipulating women into exploitative situations.

Attorneys Suzette Rasmussen and Alan Mortensen, representing the plaintiffs, stated, “This lawsuit exposes the truth behind the facade of Tim Ballard and OUR. Instead of rescuing women and children from trafficking, these defendants used their positions of trust to exploit and abuse and traffic women.” The lawsuit names OUR and several associates of Ballard, including an alleged financier of OUR operations, as defendants.

The plaintiffs allege that Ballard used deceptive tactics, including the “couples ruse,” to coerce them into sexual acts under the guise of anti-trafficking operations. This tactic, which Ballard purportedly employed during missions, is now a core focus of the case and raises grave concerns about the practices within an organization once lauded for its humanitarian efforts.

Ballard’s attorney, Mark Eisenhut, responded to the allegations, stating, “After a nearly unbroken string of defeats in every state court that has heard their cases, the plaintiffs are engaging in desperate forum shopping with the same tired allegations, which one judge after another has called inconsistent and unsupported by facts.” This ongoing legal battle highlights not only the personal stakes for those involved but also the broader implications for anti-trafficking initiatives in the U.S.
