Everyone thinks we need more taxes but no one is asking if the government has a spending problem

Yeah so what’s up with that?

“Hurr durr we need wealth tax! We need a gooning tax! We need a breathing tax!”

The government brings in $2 trillion a year already. Where is that shit going? And you want to give them MORE money?

Does the government need more money or do they just have a spending problem and you think tax is a magic wand?

Let’s explore some examples of wasteful government spending:

  1. Washington Metro: The omnibus spending bill allocates $150 million for grants to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (D.C. Metro). This special line-item appropriation benefits the capital city at the expense of taxpayers from around the country11.
  2. DC Tuition Assistance Grants: The same omnibus bill provides $40 million for federal payment to support resident tuition. This funding subsidizes out-of-state tuition for D.C. residents attending college in other states11.
  3. Duplication Programs: Various reports from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) highlight wasteful duplication across government programs. For instance:
    • 342 economic development programs.
    • 130 programs serving the disabled.
    • 130 programs serving at-risk youth.
    • 90 early childhood development programs.
    • 75 programs funding international education, cultural, and training exchange activities.
    • 72 safe water programs22.
  4. High-Risk Programs: As of March 2023, the high-risk list identifies 38 government programs requiring reform. These programs address issues such as managing federal property, national cybersecurity, and rising drug abuse34.
