Elon Musk launches America Party. Candidates to run in 2026. Platform: debt reduction, AI military, free speech, pro-natalist.

Elon Musk has officially launched a new political faction called the America Party. The announcement came on July 5, 2025, following a week-long feud with President Trump over the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which Musk claims will add $3.4 trillion to the national debt over the next decade. Musk posted the party’s formation on his platform X, stating, “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.” The move follows a poll he ran on Independence Day, where 65.4% of 1.2 million respondents voted in favor of a new party. Musk says the America Party will run candidates in the 2026 midterms, not 2028. That means House, Senate, and state-level races are in play.

The platform is built around six core policies. Musk wants to reduce the national debt and limit spending to what’s “responsible.” He’s pushing for military modernization through AI and robotics. He’s pro-tech and wants the United States to “accelerate to win in AI.” He’s calling for less regulation, especially in energy. He’s backing free speech protections. And he’s openly pro-natalist, meaning he supports policies that encourage higher birth rates. Musk says the party will be centrist on most issues but laser-focused on breaking the two-party grip.

The America Party is not registered with the Federal Election Commission yet. No filings have appeared in the FEC database as of July 6. Musk says the party will target “2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts” where margins are razor-thin. He believes that’s enough to swing legislation and force both parties to negotiate. Musk has already spent over $280 million on political donations in the 2024 cycle, mostly backing Trump and GOP candidates. That alliance collapsed in May after Musk stepped down from the Department of Government Efficiency, a federal agency he helped create.

Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act on July 4. The legislation includes $5 trillion in debt ceiling increases, $1.4 trillion in defense and infrastructure spending, and $4.5 trillion in tax cuts. Musk called it “the biggest debt increase in history” and said every member of Congress who voted for it “should hang their head in shame.” He’s now threatening to fund primary challengers against those Republicans in 2026. Trump responded by threatening to cut off federal subsidies to Musk’s companies and floated a probe through DOGE, the same agency Musk once led.

The America Party is Musk’s answer to what he calls the “Porky Pig Party.” He says the current system is a one-party state when it comes to spending. He’s betting that a small but well-funded third party can tip the balance in Congress. Whether it gains traction depends on ballot access, legal hurdles, and voter turnout. Musk has not named any candidates yet. He says legislative discussions will be held with both parties, but the America Party will caucus independently.
