Egg prices have indeed been rising again. The primary reason for this increase is the ongoing battle with avian influenza (bird flu), which has significantly impacted poultry farms across the United States. This outbreak has led to a reduced supply of eggs, while demand has remained steady, causing prices to climb.
In July 2024, the average cost of a dozen Grade A large eggs was $3.08, marking a 5.5% increase from June and a 19.1% rise compared to the previous year. Despite some relief earlier in the year, the resurgence of bird flu cases since November 2023 has driven prices up by about 44%.
