Janeese Lewis George, who is democratic socialist and DC Council member, leads in the Democratic primary for mayor.
With many votes counted she has around 52.8%.
Other main candidate Kenyan McDuffie has 36.6%.
Incumbent Mayor Muriel Bowser not running again.
DC is strong Democrat city so primary winner almost sure to win full election in November 2026.
She promise things like free buses for some people, lower utility bills, more tenant rights, universal childcare.
Trump said he may “take back” DC if she wins.
