Bill Clinton did indeed pay $850,000 to Paula Jones
Paula Jones Case:
- Paula Jones was an Arkansas state employee when Bill Clinton served as Arkansas’ governor.
- Jones accused Clinton of sexual impropriety in the early 1990s.
- She filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Clinton.
- The lawsuit went all the way to the Supreme Court, which ultimately dismissed it on the grounds that Jones could not show damages.
- While the case was on appeal, Bill Clinton personally paid $850,000 to settle the suit without admitting liability12.
- Importantly, the facts of the case were already publicly known, so this payment was not considered “hush money”.
- The funds did not come from the government, nor did they amount to a campaign contribution
