Cyberattacks cripple car dealerships, causing delays and price hikes due to software outage.

Sharing is Caring!

CDK Global, a major player in the auto sales industry, provides software technology to thousands of auto dealers in the U.S. and Canada. Unfortunately, they recently faced a multiday outage due to back-to-back cyberattacks. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Impact: The outage affected many operations at dealerships, potentially causing delays for prospective car buyers. Some dealerships resorted to writing up vehicle orders by hand.
  • CDK’s Services: CDK Global’s software facilitates day-to-day dealership operations, including vehicle sales, financing, insurance, and repairs. It serves over 15,000 retail locations across North America.
  • Current Status: CDK is actively investigating the cyber incident and has shut down all systems as a precaution. They’ve restored core services but experienced another cyber incident later. As of now, there’s no estimated time frame for resolution, and customer care support channels remain unavailable.
  • Other Auto Companies: Major automakers like Stellantis, Ford, and BMW confirmed that the CDK outage impacted some of their dealers, but sales operations continue
