“Credible Terror Threats”: Major Cities Across the West Are Canceling New Year’s Eve Events

A number of cities around the world are cancelling their New Year’s Eve celebration amid credible threats of terrorist attacks.

It comes after the FBI says it foiled a alleged planned bombing attack in Los Angeles planned for New Year’s Eve. The four suspects were arrested earlier this month in the Mojave Desert east of Los Angeles as they were rehearsing their plot, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said during a news conference. Officials showed reporters surveillance aerial footage of the suspects moving a large black object in the desert to a table. Officials said they were able to make the arrests before the suspects assembled a functional explosive device.

New Years Eve fireworks have been cancelled in the wake of the deadly Bondi Beach shooting earlier this month. The display was set to draw 15,000 people to Bondi Beach.

Waverley Council confirmed the events were canceled, saying that: “Due to the current situation on the ground, Waverley Council has made the decision to cancel New Year’s Eve events at Bondi Beach, including elrow XXL Bondi and Local’s Lawn,” as reported by Sky News.
