Colorado mandates pronoun use under new speech law, HB 1312 forces compliance in public spaces, free speech clash erupts over gender identity law signed by Polis

Colorado Democrats just quietly, and in secret passed a HB 1312 restricting free speech. Use of preferred pr*nouns and selected names based on gender identity is now MANDATORY

“So they’ve just enacted a new law and Governor Jared Polis signed it going into the weekend, HB 1312 is actually a modification of, it’s an amendment to the pre existing Colorado Anti Discrimination act

— What this amendment does is it actually requires any individual in a public accommodation space to use mandatory preferred pr*nouns and selected names of individuals based on gender identity, even if those individuals disagree with the communication of a message that is antithetical to what they believe.

It’s the first time I have seen a state enact a law that is so patently unconstitutional that tries to concretize into the state canon a requirement to violate the First Amendment because not every Coloradan is going to agree with the use of preferred pr*nouns or gender identity related names.”
