Not many people would be so easygoing while being called a “fat ass” on live TV, but NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo took it in stride. He was also well aware that when those words came out of the mouth of a young woman with Tourette’s syndrome, there was no reason to take it personally.
During a segment on Tuesday’s episode of Cuomo, the titular host welcomed Baylen Dupree, a 20-year-old who was diagnosed with the neurological disorder that is characterized by completely involuntary tics, both verbal and physical. Dupree has been using TikTok to raise awareness of her condition and help people understand it better since it’s such a complex condition to understand; Tourette’s-related tics can manifest as everything from nonsense words and physical movements that can be hidden to obscenities and even racial slurs as well as movements that can cause injuries to the person or others.
