Canada’s economic decline has nothing to do with Trump’s tariffs and everything to do with Justin Trudeau’s failed leadership. For nearly a decade, Liberal policies have suffocated growth, buried businesses in red tape, and driven the country into stagnation. Instead of fixing the mess, Trudeau’s government is busy deflecting blame, pretending that tariffs are Canada’s biggest problem. The truth is, Canada’s economic collapse is entirely homegrown.
The numbers expose the damage. Per-capita GDP has shrunk by 3.5% since its 2022 peak, with no signs of recovery. Regulatory inefficiencies and inter-provincial trade barriers have strangled businesses, making it harder to invest and grow. Trudeau’s mass immigration policies have overloaded housing and infrastructure without boosting productivity, stretching the system to its limits. More people, more strain, and no economic benefit—that’s the Trudeau doctrine.
The decline is accelerating. November 2024 saw a 0.2% contraction in economic output, the largest monthly drop since December 2023. Thirteen of twenty industrial sectors shrank, including mining, oil, gas, utilities, and transportation. The only sectors growing? Construction and real estate—propped up by runaway immigration and unsustainable housing demand.
Pierre Poilievre is Canada’s best shot at turning this around. He understands that Canada’s problems aren’t coming from Washington. They’re coming from Ottawa. His focus on military investment, tackling the drug crisis, and cutting bureaucratic waste is what Canada needs to get back on track.
If Canadians want a future, they need leadership that actually understands economics. Trudeau’s excuses won’t fix the economy. Real change will.
