Canada to Reach the 2% NATO Defense Spending Target . . . by 2032

Canada estimated that it will reach its 2% NATO defense spending target by 2032, according to the country’s president, Justin Trudeau said at the NATO Summit in Washington, D.C., which concluded on Thursday.

Since his first presidential run, former President Trump, the presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee, has advocated for NATO countries to spend at least 2% on defense.

A Heritage Foundation analysis published in November 2020 found that NATO allies were spending $50 billion more on defense compared to 2016.

President Biden recently said that 23 countries are now meeting their spending obligations under NATO, compared to 9 in 2020.
