California: Rare deep sea fish washes ashore in Carlsbad

A rare deep-sea anglerfish recently washed ashore in Carlsbad, California, capturing the attention of marine biologists and the public alike. This unusual find has been turned over to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography for preservation and study.

The anglerfish, known as the Pacific Footballfish, measures about 10 inches long and typically inhabits depths ranging from 650 feet to 3,000 feet. These fish are rarely encountered by humans due to their deep-sea habitat, making this discovery particularly significant.
