California Installs Speed Monitoring Cameras In 6 Cities! Fines Ranging From $50 to $500.

Sharing is Caring!

California has taken a bold step to enhance road safety by installing speed monitoring cameras in six cities: Los Angeles, San Jose, Oakland, Glendale, Long Beach, and San Francisco. This pilot program, which started in January 2024, aims to curb speeding and reduce traffic fatalities. The cameras will be placed at high-injury intersections, near schools, and in areas known for street racing.

The penalties for speeding are designed to be a strong deterrent. Drivers caught going at least 11 mph over the speed limit will receive fines starting at $50, with the amount increasing based on the speed. The first violation will generally be a warning, but subsequent violations will result in fines ranging from $50 to $500. The fines collected will be used to cover the cost of the program and fund traffic calming measures, such as raised crosswalks and speed tables.
