I can’t even believe this is real
Canada Minister Marc Miller is questioned about their new bill under the Liberal government led by Prime Minister Mark Carney that would EXEMPT ALL MINISTERS FROM ALL LAWS
Yes, you heard that correctly

This will result in so much grifting and bribery. All a corporation needs to do is to get a single minister to drop expensive government regulations for their company. That is just one example. There are a hundred ways this can get abused, but the ministers are much more concerned with enriching themselves and they will ignore the abuse.

Buried on page 300 of the government’s omnibus budget implementation bill is an extremely troubling clause regarding corporate power in Canada—one that allows all cabinet ministers to exempt any individual or corporation from any federal Canadian law they are responsible for (with the exception of the Criminal Code). These exemptions just have to be justified as being “in the public interest” and “encourag[ing] innovation, competitiveness or economic growth,” concepts so vague that they could be invoked for virtually any law.
Factcheck: Bill C-15 does amend the Red Tape Reduction Act, allowing ministers to grant temporary exemptions (up to 3 years, extendable) from specific federal laws or regulations they administer—except the Criminal Code—to entities for innovation and red tape reduction, if conditions like public interest and risk assessment are met. It doesn’t automatically exempt ministers themselves. Critics highlight risks of abuse; supporters say it’s for economic growth with oversight. Sources: http://parl.ca, http://policyalternatives.ca.
