Biden commutes 37 federal death row sentences

Sharing is Caring!

President Joe Biden has recently commuted the sentences of 37 federal death row inmates, converting their punishments to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. This decision aligns with the moratorium on federal executions that his administration imposed in 2021. The move spares the lives of individuals convicted of serious crimes, including murders of police officers, military personnel, and civilians.

This move can be seen as undermining justice for the victims and their families. The commutations exclude three high-profile inmates: Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon bomber; Robert Bowers, the Tree of Life Synagogue shooter; and Dylann Roof, who carried out the racially motivated shooting at Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston.
