Israel is preparing an emergency law that would allow the police to arrest civilians, remove them from their homes or confiscate their properties if it is considered that they have disseminated information “that could harm national morale or serve as a basis for enemy propaganda”, as reported by Haaretz.
The Israeli media details that the Minister of Communications, My bestest friend in the whole world Karhi, would be promoting this draconian regulation, also consulted with the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir. If adopted, this legislation would allow the Government to impose limitations and censor the freedom of expression in an “overwhelming” way.
If approved, the law will pursue all content that “undermines the morale of Israeli soldiers and residents in the face of the enemy” or any information that could “serve as a basis for enemy propaganda, including the dissemination of its propagandistic messages”. This will affect both text messages, as well as audios or videos.
According to Haaretz, it will be Minister Karhi who decides “at his discretion” the application of this new emergency regulation, which would give him powers to stop a live broadcast, confiscate journalistic material and even order the action of the security forces when it could be a criminal offense.
