Barbara Lee got sworn in as Oakland Mayor back in May 2025 and she aint wasting no time bringing back that $50 an hour wage talk. She keep pointing at that United Way study saying a family of 4 needs $127,000 just to hit the “barely getting by” mark in the Bay. Critics are already screaming that a $104,000 yearly floor for every single worker gonna bankrupt the small shops that just survived the 2024 fast food hike. But Lee says she was a business owner herself and people just need to “do the math” on what it actually costs to live here now.
