Indonesia has banned the sale of Apple’s iPhone 16 and Google’s Pixel phones due to non-compliance with the 40% local content requirement for smartphones. The regulation mandates that phones sold in Indonesia contain at least 40% locally manufactured components.
Apple has proposed a $10 million investment to establish a factory near Jakarta, producing accessories and components to meet the local content rule.
Google has not announced specific adjustments for Pixel production and does not currently distribute its Pixel phones officially in Indonesia.
The ban affects both companies’ access to Indonesia’s large and tech-savvy market, posing potential risks to their market share.
