The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies are responding to a shooting incident at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills that left nine to 10 people injured, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
In a news conference this evening, Bouchard said there were “nine, maybe 10, victims of varying kinds of injuries.” The victims were of various ages, with the youngest identified as 8 years old.
The suspect is “contained” in a house within a half mile from the scene, Bouchard said.
“He got out of the car, went to the steps, fired, reloaded as he ascended the steps,” Bouchard said of the suspect, adding that it appeared to be a random active shooter. A weapon, a 9-milimeter glock, was recovered at the scene along with three magazines. The suspect fired 28 shots, according to Bouchard.
“It’s heartbreaking,” said Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett.
