Measuring wealth through traditional liberal economic metrics like GDP per capita is absurd.
Jackson, Mississippi has a higher GDP per capita and greater PPP than Berlin, Germany for example.
Nobody in their right mind would argue living standards are higher in the former.
The poorest states in America regularly compete with the richest countries in Europe for average purchasing power. Not exaggerating.
