Gunfire has been exchanged at the border between Egypt and Gaza, reportedly between Egyptian guards and Israeli soldiers.

Arabic news outlets, including Al Arabiya, reported that border guards opened fire on Israeli soldiers in Rafah and they responded.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on its Telegram channel that a “shooting incident occurred” at the Egyptian border on Monday, but did not provide any other details.

“The incident is under review and discussions are being held with the Egyptians,” the IDF said.

A journalist at the Israeli KAN News channel wrote on X, formally Twitter: “An unusual exchange of fire was recorded this morning between IDF forces and Egyptian army soldiers in the Rafah crossing area. An Egyptian soldier was killed in the incident. There were no casualties on the Israeli side.”
